5 Points Market & Restaurant, located just south of downtown, is well known in the Tucson food scene for serving delicate and delicious farm to table dishes, such as Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, Pork Tortas and Huevos Rancheros for breakfast, brunch and lunch.

On May 2, patrons can enjoy a family-style 3-course dinner at 5 Points to benefit Tucson’s writer haven, Casa Libre En La Solana.

“While brainstorming fundraising ideas, Casa Libre’s intern, Taylor Miller, suggested we partner with Jasper [5 Points owner Jasper Ludwig] at 5 Points,” said Casa Libre founder Kristen Nelson. “Since 5 Points opened their doors, they have become a favorite brunch spot. I am there almost every weekend.”

Though the menu is under wraps, ingredients for “From Farm to Poem” will be locally sourced with meat, cheese and produce donations from Double Check Ranch, Sleeping Frog Farms, Fiore Di Capra, and Patagonia Orchards.

“Taylor solicited donations from all of the generous sponsor farms and Jasper and the rest of the 5 Points crew are donating their time and expertise to make us a 3-course family style meal,” said Nelson. “I’m really humbled by Taylor’s hard work, the willingness of the poets and musicians to share their talents, the generosity of 5 Points and all of our local farms who have shown up at a time when Casa Libre really needs their support.”

Guests will not only experience the rare opportunity to dine at 5 Points after sundown, but also be treated to live music and poetry readings by notable performers Samantha Bounkeua, Kate Haverly, Stephanie Balzer and Sommer Browning.

From Farm to Poem, 5 Points and Casa Libre

Casa Libre is a local non-profit dedicated to fostering a community of writers. They do so by providing a venue for artists to practice and improve their craft and showcase their work, as well as resources to make their vision a reality.

Casa Libre holds creative writing workshops and performances, including, Edge: a Reading Series of Emerging and Younger Writers, Trickhouse Live!, a collaboration with the on-line journal Trickhouse, the Lamplight Reading Series, Made for Flight, a Transgender youth and ally empowerment workshop series, the University of Arizona’s MFA program’s monthly Works-In-Progress readings, The Curiosity Symposium, and a variety of collaborative hybrid workshops, book release events, and film screenings.

Dinner begins at 5pm. Tickets are $50 per person, and RSVP is required as seating is limited. Non-alcoholic beverages are included, with wine and beer available by donation.

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the ‘From Farm To Poem’ event page on Facebook.

@Talegacoffee at 177 N. Church Ave. transforms into @_Velvetcowboy after 4 pm, bringing cocktails, tapas, disco lights, and a lively bar atmosphere to the same space. The dual concept comes from the team behind Talega Coffee Co., with coffee and scratch-made breakfast and lunch served during the day, followed by happy hour and bar service at night.

Velvet Cowboy’s grand opening is Oct. 16, with upcoming events including drag brunches, DJs, and live music.🪩

“Opening this place feels a little surreal. To now have a space where we can bring together coffee, food, art, booze, and all the weird things we love feels like a reflection of how far we’ve come.” —Tyler Melo
