DRINK THIS: Key Lime Pie Gose at 1912 Brewing Company

Mar 23, 20232 min read

“Drink This” is your source for the newest and freshest local beers in town. Breaking beer news about seasonal and specialty brews, one-offs, brand-new beers, and the freshest tappings of your favorite local standbys. The beers you need now, and where to get them while they’re fresh.

In a wildly successful exhibition of beer-impersonating-food, 1912 Brewing Company’s newest brew tricks your taste buds into thinking you inadvertently poured a pint of pie instead of beer.  Brewed with fresh key lime juice, vanilla, and cinnamon, 1912’s Key Lime Pie Gose was released in honor of “Pi Day” on March 14.  Pi Day is a holiday that celebrates mathematics (ahem, pi =  3.141592653…), but which is often commemorated, for lack of an aptly festive math problem I suppose, with all things pie-related.

1912’s Key Lime Pie Gose is bursting with fragrant key lime succulence and a bold tartness that is well balanced by the creaminess of the vanilla. The gose style is a favorite of the brewery’s and is customarily brewed with wheat (whose high protein content also adds to the creaminess of the style), and is finished with salt (which every baker knows is the key to making pastry flavor pop).

This beer is pie cosplay at its best, and at 5.4% ABV, you can enjoy a couple of slices, er… pints.

Want some actual IRL food with your beer?

1912 Brewing Company is hosting a beer and tamale pairing today, Thursday, March 23 (National Tamale Day).  Customers will get three 6-ounce beers paired with three mini tamales from Tucson Tamale Company.  For dessert, we recommend a pour of the aforementioned Key Lime Pie Gose to close out a totally Tucson tasting.

1912 Brewing Company is located at 2045 N. Forbes Blvd. #105. For more information, visit 1912brewing.com.

After 4pm, @Talegacoffee at 177 N. Church Ave. transforms into @_Velvetcowboy, serving cocktails, tapas, and late-night bar energy. Velvet Cowboy’s grand opening is Oct. 16, with upcoming events including drag brunches, DJs, and live music.🪩

This weekend’s hours are Saturday from 2pm to midnight and Sunday from noon to 10pm. Featured in this video is the Chilte(penis) martini special, made with chiltepin vodka, agua de chiltepin, and pickle juice, available until they sell out.🍸

“Opening this place feels a little surreal. To now have a space where we can bring together coffee, food, art, booze, and all the weird things we love feels like a reflection of how far we’ve come.” —Tyler Melo
