Let the countdown begin… Film Fest Tucson 2019 is almost here!

The fourth-annual event, which takes place from Thursday, October 10 – Saturday, October 12, has a jam-packed program with almost 50 film screenings in downtown Tucson. With three indoor and one outdoor location, you’ve got plenty to take advantage of.

In addition to the variety of films (including narrative, documentaries, and special films), look out for the special guests (including award-winning actors, directors, writers, and producers).

WHY FILM FEST?

The local festival brings filmmakers and our community together around a commonality — a love of storytelling and cinema. In doing so, it showcases Southern Arizona’s rich culture and heritage with a wider audience.

Win big

We have a pair of VIP tickets (worth $95 each) up for grabs. The VIP passes give you access to ALL screenings, panels, workshops, and special events throughout the festival.

In addition, you’ll be granted access to the V.I.P. lounge at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. The lounge, open from 6 – 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, is equipped with snacks from fabulous local restaurants (Tito & Pep, Commoner & Co., and Prep and Pastry) and drinks (compliments of Hamilton Distillery, Ten 55 Brewing Company, and more).

SIGN UP IN THE BAR ABOVE TO WIN

Sign up by entering your name and email address in the bar across the top of your screen for a chance to win a pair of VIP tickets to Film Fest Tucson 2019. A winner will be randomly selected from those who sign up.

The winner will be notified on Wednesday, October 2. Please check your email to see if you’ve won and respond by the end of the day on Wednesday or a new winner will be selected.

For more information about films, schedules, venues, parking, and where to buy tickets, visit filmfesttucson.com.

IOU Sushi III has closed. The all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant on North Oracle Road announced the news on Facebook after about 10 years in Tucson. “This is the hardest post I’ve had to write,” the owners said. The post continued, “we have met some great friends who have become family to us.” Tucson Foodie first visited the restaurant in 2017, when it operated as IOU Sushi IV.

Anne Rysdale built @sheltercocktaillounge in 1961 with concrete walls, lava rock, and Cold War nerves. Today, owners Pam Santangelo and Kevin Breutzmann keep the Tucson bar exactly as regulars remember it. Inside, martinis share space with JFK memorabilia, a vintage atomic chandelier, and a suit of armor named Charlie. “Tucson is changing so much, but this has stayed the same. It’s a time capsule,” Santangelo said.
