Sure, Sonora Moonshine Co. has been welcoming folks in for food, cocktails, beer, and good times since late March, but an official fiesta is being thrown for the restaurant’s Grand Opening.
The new downtown spot at 124 E. Broadway Blvd. is hosting a weekend filled with festivities starting on Saturday, May 4, and then the Grand Opening party is on Sunday, May 5 (Cinco De Mayo).
“Sonora Moonshine Co. is dedicated to providing an authentic and vibrant experience with a focus on quality and community engagement,” said Es Teran, owner of the restaurant and Borderlands Brewing Company.

“Located in the historic downtown of Tucson, our venue offers a unique blend of local flavor and festive spirit, perfect for the Cinco de Mayo celebrations. We invite the public and media to join us for this exciting weekend.”
Therefore, the following events are open to the public and suitable for all ages.
Weekend Events
Saturday, May 4
Doors open at 10 a.m. for a lively brunch session.
Enjoy our drink specials, mezcal tastings, and groove to the beats of a live DJ set throughout the afternoon. Don’t miss the Canelo vs. Munguia boxing fight, featured live as part of their grand opening celebration.
Sunday, May 5
Celebrate our official grand opening starting with brunch at 10 a.m.
Relish in our special Menudo Blanco and other delightful offerings. The day features a live DJ set, followed by an enchanting live performance by Salvador Duran and Adrian Perez at 5:30 p.m. Join the team for a celebratory toast at 6:30 p.m. to mark the momentous occasion.

We tasted a few of the dishes on their “soft opening menu” and the space is a great addition to downtown.
The Carne Seca & Guacamole can easily be shared but can also greedily eat it all on your own like I did. The stone bowl the dish comes in is impressive (and super heavy) and carries a heaping amount of housemade guacamole. The strips of carne seca surround the guacamole, which were then used for dipping and loading into my mouth.
We also tried the Pretzel y Mole — a very large house-baked pretzel waiting to be torn apart and dipped into Sonora Moonshine’s mole. It’s another dish that’s big enough to share but then again can also be yours and yours only.
Sonora Moonshine Co. is located at 124 E. Broadway Blvd. For more information, follow Sonora Moonshine Co. on Instagram.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
