Original ChopShop to Host its Grand Opening on Campbell Avenue

May 21, 20242 min read

In October 2022, we first caught wind of an Original ChopShop coming to Tucson.

It’s been pretty windy lately and another gust of information just came in: We now know that the official Grand Opening for the restaurant at 2749 N. Campbell Ave. is on Wednesday, June 5. The team was aiming to open the restaurant last summer but, you know, stuff happens.

This is the company’s first location in Tucson and the team is pumped to join the city — a city that was the first UNESCO City of Gastronomy designation in the U.S.

“We are thrilled to expand outside of the Phoenix metro and introduce our range of wholesome and affordable food options to the Tucson community,” said Jason Morgan, CEO of Original ChopShop. “Our excitement is amplified by the fact that this Shop resonates with our brand identity in a special way in building it from the ground up.”

Before the building on the property was demolished, it housed L’amour Nails.

“We believe this Shop’s ambiance is poised to play a pivotal role in achieving our goal of making convenient, feel-good food more accessible within our home state of Arizona,” Morgan added.

The new restaurant is going to be open 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily

What’s Cookin’?

The menu includes all sorts of dishes ranging from salads, superfruit bowls, parfaits, sandwiches like the Moroccan Turkey and Grilled Steak, and a mighty collection of protein bowls.

The protein bowls already come with roasted broccoli, cauliflower, onion, carrot, and mushroom but you’ve got the option to include proteins such as Thai Coconut Chicken, Green Curry Tofu, Spicy Korean Steak, Teriyaki Chicken, Sweet Soy Sesame Steak, and Red Chili Lime Shrimp.

Original ChopShop’s Story

The first owners of Original ChopShop opened the flagship location in Old Town Scottsdale in 2013. With the success of their first location, a second spot was opened near ASU in Tempe less than a year later.

Then, in 2016, the owners sold “controlling interest in the company” to a group of Texas-based investors that wished to expand Original ChopShop outside of Arizona.

The Grand Opening for Tucson’s location is on Wednesday, June 5.

Original ChopShop is located at 2749 N. Campbell Ave. For more information, visit originalchopshop.com and follow Original ChopShop on Instagram

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.

Opened in 2023, @kabulcorner is Tucson’s only Afghan restaurant, created to provide jobs, community, and a taste of home for Afghan families who made Tucson their new home.

Today, Sediq Haidari and his family serve traditional Afghan dishes like bolani, mantou, Kabuli palaw, fresh tandoori naan, and house-made chaka, while preserving recipes and traditions rooted in Afghanistan’s rich history.

With its warm hospitality, authentic food, and strong sense of community, Kabul Corner has become a little piece of home in the Sonoran Desert. ❤️

“These dishes are famous not only in Afghanistan, but in neighboring countries like Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Iran, and even parts of China. It sits right between Indian and Arabic food.” Sediq Haidari
