A new chef has been named at PY Steakhouse inside Casino Del Sol. Chef Eliana Hernandez is taking over the role of chef de cuisine where she will oversee all culinary operations at the restaurant.
For starters, her day-to-day duties include creating and updating the menu, managing kitchen staff, and ensuring each guest is provided with an elevated dining experience.

“I’m very excited to add my personal touches to the menu and to work with the amazing culinary staff at Casino Del Sol,” said Hernandez. “PY Steakhouse has for good reason become one of the top restaurants in Southern Arizona and I’m honored to have been selected to lend my skills and experience to such an elevated concept. I’m looking forward to working with all the local purveyors to incorporate high-quality ingredients and authentic concepts into the menu.”
A decade of experience
Chef Hernandez has gradually climbed the ladder to becoming a top chef.
Shortly after starting as a dishwasher in the Hollywood, California restaurant, Lucques, she began training in each station in the kitchen and worked her way up to being named sous chef. During that time, she held many roles in the organization and helped out in the opening of a variety of new restaurant concepts.

Most recently, she spent time at Jean-Georges Beverly Hill at the Waldorf Astoria. She’s got a lot of love and respect for the award-winning Michelin starred chef, who expanded her culinary approach and led to the opportunity at Casino Del Sol.
“We are thrilled to have chef Eliana join our team,” said Casino Del Sol’s executive chef Ryan Clark. “She brings a wealth of culinary knowledge and a well-seasoned background in many iconic kitchens to PY Steakhouse. We are really looking forward to the fresh new touches she is making to our new spring menus.”
Spring Menu and beyond
As PY Steakhouse launched its spring menu to coincide with her arrival, offering options that are seasonally inspired including Beef Tenderloin Tartare, Jumbo Diver Scallops, Dry-Aged Beef Shank Orecchiette, and more.

PY Steakhouse is located inside Casino Del Sol at 5655 W. Valencia Rd. For more information and to view the full menu, visit casinodelsol.com or call 1-855-SOL-STAY (765-7829) for reservations.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
