Tucson Doobie Team’s Year in Review: Top Cannabis Picks for 2024

Jan 17, 20255 min read

As we dive into 2025, let’s explore the cream of the crop in cannabis products that have caught our attention and earned their spot in our top picks list. From exceptional flower to mind-blowing concentrates, here’s our carefully curated, somewhat hilarious selection that got us buzzing.

Heads up: The products below are listed in no particular order. We love them all equally.

Addie Ibarra

iLAVA Magma Concentrate

I’ve never really used concentrate before, I was actually a bit nervous, but the staff at D2 Dispensary (7139 E. 22nd St. and 221 E. Sixth St. #105) was super cool about explaining things to me and eased any concerns I had. I like that they have a drive-thru at their 22nd Street and Kolb Road location. As a Tucson Doobie member, I was able to redeem 1g of Magma concentrate. I picked up some pre-rolls too because they had some other cool deals going on.

Birdies 10-pack Pre-Roll

As an Eastsider, I’ll happily make the drive to Botanica (6205 N. Travel Center Dr.). It feels like such a comfortably luxurious experience every time I go in. Plus, as a Doobie member, I redeemed a free Ten-pack of Birdies pre-rolls. It’s a steal.

Chrissy Mance

Lemon Cherry Gelato strain

The flowers are stunning, offering an experience that’s both uplifting and relaxing. But enough with appearances, I expect good looks from the master growers at Barrio Cannabis. What really got me going was how funny everything was when I was high! You’ve heard of the “ugly cry,” well this strain got me doing the “ugly laugh.” Cheers to Barrio, terpenes, and especially this little riot.

Ayahuasca Purple Haze strain

This 100% sativa from Mantis Genetics is a game-changer. Offering an energetic, uplifting experience, it’s perfect for daytime use when you need to stay focused and creative. Mantis Genetics expects the strain to be on retail shelves in early 2025. For now, the seeds can be purchased at Halo Cannabis (7710 S. Wilmot Rd.).

Grateful Breath Flower and Live Badder Strawnana Combo

Being a Grateful Dead fan, I have a self oath to try strains that pay homage to one of my favorite bands. Who knows if this one really did, just having the word “grateful” was enough for me to try it. This flower from Sonoran Roots was coated in crystal-ish trichomes and had heavy indica tendencies. It made me feel relaxation and joy, like a second set of “Dark Star.” I topped the bowl with a smudge of Strawnana (Canamo Concentrates) which was pure tasting and tingly. It was a delightful experience, 10/10. I grabbed mine at Ponderosa Dispensary (3008 N. Stone Ave.).

1300 AD (Tashkurgan Phenotype)

Now this strain is super rad: it’s 100% indica and descended from East Afghan genetics. This seed stock was created by Rob Light, the guy who owns Simply Professional Formula. It is a true connoisseur’s delight. Expect deep relaxation and a pure indica experience that pays homage to cannabis’s ancient roots. Seeds are available online from Ruga Monteto

Summus Lava Cake Pre-Roll

The guys at Summus have this tagline “enjoy better” and it couldn’t be more accurate. Convenience meets luxury with this brand’s infused pre-roll. The Lava Cake strain is known for its sweet, nutty flavor profile, and Summus has captured it perfectly in this ready-to-enjoy format. It is the perfect pre-roll for a chill, yet focused, movie binge. I scooped up mine at Desert Bloom Dispensary (8060 E. 22nd St. #108).

Sip Elixirs

Perfect for those who prefer their cannabis in liquid form. I love how many types and flavors of Sip Elixirs are available — some have caffeine, and some are tailored toward sleep. The flavors are great and I prefer to mix mine with soda water and a couple slices of flavor-enhancing fruit. If you’ve never tried cannabis beverages, maybe Dry January can serve as your motivation!

Halo Infusions Brownie

Halo Infusions has mastered the art of infused baking, creating a treat that’s both delicious and effectively dosed. And who doesn’t get nostalgic over a pot brownie? Anyone can get a 25mg or 100mg brownie, but medical patients are eligible for the 1000mg brownie — yee-haw!

Shane Reiser

GRAS Tasty Vape

When it comes to portable pleasure, this vape stands out from the crowd. With consistent quality and flavor (I tried Golden Pineapple) that actually tastes like the strain it represents, it’s my go-to for discrete consumption.

Simply Twisted Two-Pack Joints

These half-grammers are the perfect dog walker. I enjoy taking them on my evening walks with my pup, Truman. The fact that they’re made with sun-grown cannabis is cool too. Also, they don’t use cones, so it’s a cylindrical doobie. I picked mine up at SAINTS Dispensary (112 S. Kolb Rd.).

OGeez! RSO Gummies

The texture is one of my favorites, they’re so bouncy. The Peg’s RSO is a great edible for when you want to easily dose yourself and get that RSO benefit. I picked up mine at The Prime Leaf Dispensary (4220 E. Speedway Blvd. and 1525 N. Park Ave.).

Between the pools, hot spring and cold plunge, water slide, yoga, live music, complimentary bike rentals, and their nostalgic “Summer Rewind” experience, there was always something to do. We never left the resort.

The highlight at their on-site restaurant, Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails, was the Pollo Con Rajas - perfectly cooked chicken over a rich creamed poblano, onion, and corn mestizaje. And if you’re at their Sundance Café for breakfast, get the pozole. It’s made from a family recipe that became such a guest favorite it earned a permanent spot on the menu.

Although El Conquistador licenses the Hilton brand, it’s owned and operated by a local company. The culinary team sources much of its meat and produce from Arizona.

Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or just looking for an incredible dinner with Catalina Mountain views, this spot is worth adding to your list. 🌵🌞
