The 50th annual Tucson Meet Yourself is taking over parts of downtown for a weekend of fun from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Friday, October 13 – Saturday, October 14, and then 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 15.
“With Tucson Meet Yourself’s 50th anniversary on the horizon, we believe this historic milestone calls for a celebration that will be remembered for generations to come,” said Es Teran, CEO and Managing Partner of Borderlands Brewing Company. “That’s where Borderlands steps into the picture, ready to make history by introducing the first-ever beer garden at this iconic event.”
Plus, to get the celebration kicked off a little early, Borderlands Brewing is set to release Tucson Wheat Yourself — their new American wheat ale. They’ll be unveiling the new brew in their taprooms on Thursday, October 12, a day before Tucson Meet Yourself begins.

“Borderlands Brewing Company is proud to sponsor the first beer garden for Tucson Meet Yourself’s 50th anniversary,” said Ayla Kapahi. “We believe in sustaining and growing events that celebrate Tucson’s culturally rich and diverse communities. Let’s celebrate and learn through food and drink!”
Kapahi gave us the scoop on the new Tucson Wheat Yourself beer, saying that it is a classic American Wheat Ale with a splash of tangerine. They used local White Sonora Wheat from BKW Farms in Marana, too.
“We wanted to brew a light and easy-drinking beer that would pair well with any of the food offerings that weekend,” she said. “It pairs especially well with spicy foods. We wanted to highlight the local, heritage White Sonora Wheat grain since the Tucson Meet Yourself beer garden will feature an educational component about the history and use of local ingredients and the beer brewing process.”

“This exclusive beer, made with local ingredients, encapsulates the spirit of Tucson’s rich culture,” Teran added. “It will be available in limited quantities at our beer garden during the event.”
So, folks, be on the lookout for the beer garden at Tucson Meet Yourself from Friday, October 13 – Sunday, October 15 in downtown Tucson. Also, get a sneak peek of the new beer, Tucson Wheat Yourself, early at either of Borderlands Brewing’s taprooms.
Borderlands Brewing Company is located at 119 E. Toole Ave. and 2500 E. Sixth St. For more information, visit borderlandsbrewing.com or follow Borderland Brewing on Facebook and Instagram.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
