Last January, a collective of Arizona female brewers gathered at Barrio Brewing Company to craft the State Bird Double IPA to raise money for women’s shelters in Tucson, Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Prescott.
Barrio Brewing Company announced today that subsequent sales State Bird have reached its fundraising goal of $10,000 in only five days.
Hensley Beverage Company donated their services to distribute State Bird to over 130 bars, restaurants, and breweries across Arizona
“This was a true collaboration that came straight from the heart of the Arizona craft beer community,” said Dennis Arnold, owner of Barrio Brewing Company. “It was an honor to work with our state’s women brewers here at Barrio for this historic occasion, and how encouraging it is to see this hard work and passion translate into such strong support for a cause that we all care deeply about.”
Wings for Women in Tucson will receive $3,500. The remainder of funds raised will be donated to Sojourner Center in Phoenix, the Northland Family Help Center in Flagstaff, and Prescott Area Shelter Services in Prescott.
“We just wanted to first start off by saying how amazing and empowering of an experience it was, not only for Julie and I, but for women in general,” said JoDee Basurto, co-owner at Crooked Tooth Brewing Company. “Not only learning how to brew, but working and meeting so many wonderful women in the brewing industry.”
Clocking in at 7.5% ABV, State Bird pleases the hoppiest of hopheads. The Citra, Cascade, Centennial, Cluster, and Columbus hops used play on the “Five Cs” of the Arizona economy, which include cotton, cattle, citrus, copper, and climate.
State Bird was just released yesterday and will make its way to the following establishments over the next few days during Arizona Beer Week:
