Pop-up bar Martin Drug Co. is opening at 4 p.m. Friday, February 17 at 300 E. Congress St., the space that previously housed Flagstaff-based SLO Concepts’ restaurant Proper.

The name originates from the drugstore of the same name that occupied the space decades ago.

Martin Drug Co. features a patio on the corner of Congress Street and Fifth Avenue. The Repp + McLain designed interior features – all intentionally temporary but solid enough to feel permanent – include a wall print of Raquel Welch from the 1966 British film One Million Years B.C., lounge seating, shag carpet walls, and custom globe lights hanging from the exposed wood ceiling beams. The Matrix-inspired hallway to the bathroom is a fun little easter egg.

Pink plush booths serve as a barrier for some of the unused space scheduled to serve as a restaurant around the same time owner Scott Stiteler’s other property, the AC Hotel by Marriott, opens around the corner.

The soft opening the night before the official opening featured punch, well drinks, beer, and wine, but a cocktail menu was not yet available.

Keep an eye out for another Tucson Foodie article once additional details are revealed.
