Pulling into the parking lot of Tay’s Brew House, the first thing you’ll notice is a piece of art: tires stacked and painted red, white, and blue, with a large, curved handle. The tires create a patriotic coffee mug — the perfect representation of everything that Tay’s proudly stands for.
Natasha Herzig’s husband is in law enforcement; when her family moved from California three years ago, she saw an opportunity to create something that would honor people in similar careers.
In August 2017, Tay’s Brew House — named after the couple’s daughter, Taylinn — opened its doors.
The small interior is decorated with American flags, art from local students, and colorful signs announcing discounts for first responders.
“I wanted to create a business that was a way for us to give back and honor [first responders] and their sacrifice,” Herzig said. “And I wanted to create a place where the community could gather and come together.”
Tay’s Brew House has become a hub for the community of Corona de Tucson. Students meet with their tutors on the large, covered patio; weekend sports teams stop by to celebrate with sundaes, and parents dash through for coffee on the way to work.
Herzig paid attention to who was coming through Tay’s doors — namely, the local students — and has tailored the menu to suit them.
“Our customer base revolves around the families,” Herzig said. “So, I wanted to make sure there was more than just coffee on the menu.”
The variety of items on the menu means that there is something for anyone who stops by. They offer tea, root beer floats, milkshakes, and ice cream. There is also a large cooler of soft drinks and water.
But first and foremost, Tay’s Brew House is a coffee shop.
Herzig traveled to Hawaii to learn about Kona coffee beans to make sure that everything Tay’s used was the highest quality.
One of the most popular coffee-based drinks is the Caramel Macchiato, closely followed by the White Mocha — both piled high with whipped cream.
For those with less of a sweet tooth, there’s the classic Americano or a simple drip coffee, with beans sourced from a roaster in Pinetop.
“I never thought the reception would be so good,” Herzig said. “We’re just so appreciative [of] the customers.”
Tay’s Brew House has its eyes set on an exciting new chapter — they’re expanding to the restaurant world.
Tay’s BBQ, the restaurant concept, will have its grand opening on Friday, March 29.
The restaurant will be located on the same property and will feature a wide variety of meats, smoked in a smoker that was sourced from Texas. There will also be a full bar for the adults and sarsaparilla for the kids.
Open from 5 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily.
Tay’s Brew House is located at 16461 S. Houghton Rd. Keep up with Tay’s Brew House on Facebook or call (520) 762-3439.
