"Special treats in a special little space."

A brand new bakery is here, and the space is 100% vegan.

Houlden’s Rise Above began as a micro-bakery and is now opening its very first brick-and-mortar location at 5029 E. Fifth St. The official soft opening begins today, November 13 from 10 a.m. until they’re sold out.

They’re a small team and will be open with limited hours starting next week. An official schedule will be available on their website and Instagram on Monday, November 14.

Vegan owner and baker, Hannah Houlden, started their home-based cottage bakery in 2019, and the business has been on a speedy incline ever since. You’ve most likely seen Houlden’s treats at coffee shops like Coffee Times Drive-Thru, Red Captain Coffee Company, and Presta Coffee Roasters.

Now, just a couple of years later, we’re walking into the Houlden’s Rise Above storefront.

“The bakery is really just me saying, ‘what’s a place I’d walk into and feel like it’s somewhere I want to be?’ It’s really built and decorated with ourselves in mind,” said Houlden.

With savory turnovers, flaky bear claws, creamy cheesecakes, and a ton more, Houlden’s Rise Above’s vegan bakery will be a haven for vegans and non-vegans alike.

“It’s a comfortable place to highlight special treats we aren’t sending anywhere else,” said Houlden. “No one else will have the things we stock at the storefront. I really see this extension of the bakery as the part that’s for me. Special treats in a special little space.”
