Idaho-based ‘Gyro Shack’ to open its first out-of-state location in Tucson

It’s been busy along Broadway Boulevard lately. When it comes to new restaurants, the city has a new Portillo’s at the El Con Center, a Dave’s Hot Chicken has officially landed, and now a new gyro shop is testing out the Tucson waters.

The Idaho-based Gyro Shack is moving in on the corner of Broadway Boulevard and Park Place Drive — right across the street from See’s Candies.

There isn’t an exact Grand Opening date just yet but the team behind the restaurant is aiming to open its doors at 5775 E. Broadway Blvd. in early March 2023.

What’s important to note about this opening is that it’s Gryo Shack’s very first out-of-state location since opening in Boise, Idaho back in 2010. Seth Brink, President of Arete Food Group, LLC, is overseeing the development of the new Tucson location, which is expected to be exactly like its Idaho restaurants.

As far as the appearance of the restaurant goes, it will look similar to the ones and focus on takeout and a drive-thru — it’s likely you’ve seen the bright white and blue building while cruising around near the Park Place Mall.

What’s on the menu?

Gyro Shack is known for its gyros (obviously), which can be topped with gyro meat, falafel, hummus, chicken, bacon, and other vegetables.

You’ll find familiar-style pita sandwiches on the menu but then some unique bites, too, like the Super. The name suits it well because this handheld feast is loaded with just about everything you can imagine at a gyro shop: bacon, gyro meat, Tzatziki sauce, hummus, lettuce, tomato, onions, pepperoncini, Kalamata olives, feta cheese, and a special spicy sauce.

The restaurant also serves up fresh salads, loaded bowls, baklava for dessert, and crinkle-cut fries topped with gyro meat. A menu for kids is also available (chicken strips and pita melts) along with smaller sides like Feta & Olives and Pita with Hummus or Tzatziki.

They’ll also have a breakfast menu.

That’s right — the scent of gyros will be flowin’ while the rooster is crowin’. They’ve got a Breakfast, Supreme, and a Colossal pita. The latter comes packed with egg, gyro meat, Tzatziki sauce, bacon, grilled onions, avocado, cheese, and spicy sauce.

The official opening date is Friday, April 14.
