Hang With Mr. & Mrs. Claus During El Conquistador’s Month-Long Holiday Extravaganza

Nov 6, 20243 min read

El Conquistador Tucson is ringing in the holidays with its Holiday Extravaganza — a month-long celebration filled with more than 100 holiday-themed activities for all ages.

This December, the resort at 10000 N. Oracle Rd. will become a holiday wonderland with snowfall, a life-size gingerbread house, holiday treats, and experiences featuring Mr. & Mrs. Claus.

The highlight of the festivities kicks off on Monday, December 2 with the annual Life-sized Gingerbread House Unveiling & Tree Lighting Event. This free, family-friendly celebration will feature a life-sized gingerbread house, tree lighting, a children’s choir performance by Kids Unlimited, and photo opportunities.

Also, there’s going to be cookie decorating, holiday crafts, and even a snowball fight, setting the stage “for a magical holiday season at El Conquistador.”

“Our goal is to create a magical holiday atmosphere where families can come together and celebrate the joy of the season,” said Shelby Francom, General Manager of El Conquistador. “With everything from our life-sized gingerbread house to over 100 festive events, there’s something for everyone to enjoy—whether you’re a local or an overnight guest staying with us for the holidays. We wanted to create an atmosphere everyone can enjoy and remember for years to come.”

In addition to the events, folks are invited to partake in daily holiday activities like complimentary snowfall on the Colibri patio and toasting s’mores by the fire, Santa’s Build-A-Toy Workshops, Karaoke with Santa, Line Dancing with Mrs. Claus, Ugly Sweater Contest, Paint ‘N Sip with Santa, and much more.

There’s a total of 95 events! Plus, most of these events are totally FREE for overnight resort guests and the general public to attend (only a small handful of special events are ticketed).

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.

As it turns out, not nearly as many as there are restaurants. Farmers markets, such as @heirloomfm, and other programs, such as @pivotproduce and @tucsoncsa provide access to local produce. However, they are only available certain times of the week. @Chef_antbanks of @obonsushi defended his Iron Chef Tucson title against AJ Mortazavi of The Barnyard Crafthouse & Eatery, with tomatoes from Wholesum Family Farms revealed as this year’s secret ingredient.

Dromgoole’s winning menu included pork with minced olives over a diced tomato salad, a tomato-forward ratatouille with mozzarella, charred corn and whipped ricotta served with tableside tomato soup, and a standout dessert of fried tomato topped with goat cheese ice cream and balsamic glaze.

With the victory, Dromgoole joins Ryan Clark as the only chefs to win @theironcheftucson three years in a row. Here’s hoping OBON brings these dishes back for a special dinner. 🍅
