Seven years after closing, 17th Street Market to reopen on Saturdays

Jun 30, 20201 min read

17th Street Market quietly announced on its website that it will reopen at 830 E. 17th St. However, don’t expect a full-fledged return just yet.

The market previously operated more akin to a grocery store, then closed in 2013 after a twenty-year run. Its return, which starts on July 11, will begin as a weekly Saturday market from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.

“It’s hot outside for outdoor markets right now,” said Tom Kusian, owner of 17th Street Market. “This is an essential business. I just thought it made sense.”

“Our spacious indoor market was created to provide local farmers, specialty food producers, artisans, and art and antique collectors with a friendly environment to help them sell their products,” the website states.

The inside is organized in three large air-conditioned areas with about 10-15 vendors:

  • The Farm features vendors with fresh produce and prepared food specialty items. The Street features local artists and artisans.
  • The Square features live music and 400-square-foot stores with specialty and international foods.
  • The Street features local artists and artisans with items such as paintings, clothing, jewelry, and more.

Interested vendors can call (520) 204-4109.

Stay tuned for additional details.

17th Street Market is located at 830 E. 17th St. For more information, visit 17thstmarket.com.

The dual concept comes from the team behind Talega Coffee Co., with coffee and scratch-made breakfast and lunch served during the day, followed by happy hour and bar service at night.

Velvet Cowboy’s grand opening is Oct. 16, with upcoming events including drag brunches, DJs, and live music.🪩

“Opening this place feels a little surreal. To now have a space where we can bring together coffee, food, art, booze, and all the weird things we love feels like a reflection of how far we’ve come.” —Tyler Melo
