Play Ball! New Food to Try at Arizona Diamondbacks Games

Play Ball! New Food to Try at Arizona Diamondbacks Games

Apr 19, 20247 min read

The 2024 baseball season is off and running and the chefs at Chase Field in Phoenix have created several new menu items this year.

I’m a San Diego Padres fan, but hey, I still root occasionally for the “home team” — the Arizona Diamondbacks. One of my favorite things about going to a baseball game is to pile in as much food as my body can handle.

Sure, they are serving the stadium staples like peanuts, Cracker Jack, cotton candy, and tall cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon, but sometimes I want more. This is where the Chase Field culinary team comes in clutch.

From Arizona-inspired favorites like a footlong Sonoran hot dog to desserts galore, including churro sundaes and apple pie chimichangas, there is surely something for everyone to enjoy at home games all season long. The helmets full of nachos have returned, too — make sure you eat them all before wearing the helmet.

Also, the chefs are debuting a special hot dog when other teams visit Chase Field. For example, there’s a Padre Dog when my favorite team is in town and this one’s wrapped in bacon and loaded with avocado crema, queso fresco, and jalapeño.

Go Padres! I mean, Diamondbacks. Go teams! Here’s a look at all the brand-new bites you can find at concession stands at Diamondbacks games.

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.

Between the pools, hot spring and cold plunge, water slide, yoga, live music, complimentary bike rentals, and their nostalgic “Summer Rewind” experience, there was always something to do. We never left the resort.

The highlight at their on-site restaurant, Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails, was the Pollo Con Rajas - perfectly cooked chicken over a rich creamed poblano, onion, and corn mestizaje. And if you’re at their Sundance Café for breakfast, get the pozole. It’s made from a family recipe that became such a guest favorite it earned a permanent spot on the menu.

Although El Conquistador licenses the Hilton brand, it’s owned and operated by a local company. The culinary team sources much of its meat and produce from Arizona.

Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or just looking for an incredible dinner with Catalina Mountain views, this spot is worth adding to your list. 🌵🌞
