Something new is brewing in the River Center shopping complex at East River and North Craycroft Road.
The team behind Borderlands Brewing Company recently announced that they’ll be opening a third location at 5605 E, River Rd. #201. The new spot will be named Borderlands Brewing North and the expected opening date is March 2024 — the taps will be pouring suds before you know it.
“This new venue will not only feature a variety of entertainment options, such as arcade games, pool tables, air hockey, foosball, and a basketball hoop machine but will also host trivia nights, offer yoga sessions on weekends, karaoke on Saturdays, and live bands whenever possible,” said Es Teran, owner of Borderlands Brewing.
Borderlands has been on a tear in the last couple of years. Most recently, the brewery acquired Dillinger Brewing’s property and brands, meaning that they’ll brew and distribute the beers. About a year ago, Borderlands opened its second Tucson location in the Sam Hughes neighborhood at 2500 E. Sixth St.
Then, just a few months ago, they revamped the food menu at both locations. The newest space will also have a food menu, which used to house Harvest Restaurant until the restaurant closed in 2019.
“Borderlands Brewing will serve the well-loved menus from our Sam Hughes and Downtown locations, with plans to introduce new items in the months ahead,” said Teran. “As always, dogs are welcome, ensuring that our laid-back vibe continues at our new location. We’re committed to maintaining the casual setting our patrons have come to expect.”
Stay tuned for a definite opening date but you can expect it to be in March.
Borderlands Brewing Company is located at 119 E. Toole Ave. and 2500 E. Sixth St. For more information, visit borderlandsbrewing.com or follow Borderland Brewing on Facebook and Instagram.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
