Brunch must-have of the week: Ricotta-filled crêpes at Feast

Jun 13, 20191 min read

Sometimes brunch means dessert for breakfast.

Doug Levy, chef and owner of Feast, always delivers surprises. Levy’s bright space on Speedway is a lovely, open place with fresh flowers on every table and a smart, caring, and funny staff.

I love anything that reminds me of my Granny’s blintzes. When I saw Feast’s Crêpes (house-made ricotta, cardamom sautéed pears, lemon zest and fresh berries) for $12, I knew what was for brunch.

The three perfectly cooked crepes were folded around the rich, slightly sweet cheese. This is a grown-up crepe. It’s neither too sweet nor too heavy. The cardamom sautéed pears – with their hint of lemon zest – helped to sweeten the dish with a fruity spice.

The fresh berries were bright with a bit of crunch helped along with a crispy pear garnish. Visually speaking, it’s a beautiful dish.

As is the case with nearly everything at Feast, they’re only available for the month, so get ’em before the menu changes again.

Feast, located at 3719 E. Speedway Blvd., is open for brunch from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sundays. For more information and to view the latest menu, visit eatatfeast.com.

IOU Sushi III has closed. The all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant on North Oracle Road announced the news on Facebook after about 10 years in Tucson. “This is the hardest post I’ve had to write,” the owners said. The post continued, “we have met some great friends who have become family to us.” Tucson Foodie first visited the restaurant in 2017, when it operated as IOU Sushi IV.

Anne Rysdale built @sheltercocktaillounge in 1961 with concrete walls, lava rock, and Cold War nerves. Today, owners Pam Santangelo and Kevin Breutzmann keep the Tucson bar exactly as regulars remember it. Inside, martinis share space with JFK memorabilia, a vintage atomic chandelier, and a suit of armor named Charlie. “Tucson is changing so much, but this has stayed the same. It’s a time capsule,” Santangelo said.
