Serial Grillers Owners to Open Midtown Tap Room “Craft, A Modern Drinkery”

Serial Grillers Owners to Open Midtown Tap Room “Craft, A Modern Drinkery”

Oct 11, 20171 min read

Tucson’s craft beer scene is showing no signs of slowing down.

Serial Grillers co-owners and brothers Travis and William Miller announced plans to open a midtown tap room called Craft, A Modern Drinkery.

The space at 4603 E. Speedway Blvd., which previously housed Terry & Zeke’s, will offer 40 craft beer handles and six wine taps.

“That will put us at 120 beer tap handles between our three locations,” Travis said. “Having the extra taps allows us to create a distribution point for our three taprooms which helps us get special releases and allocations from the best microbreweries distributed here to Tucson.”

While both existing Serial Grillers offer a wide range of beer taps, Craft, A Modern Drinkery will focus on beer instead of food. Design details have yet to be revealed, but the Miller brothers are putting in considerable work.

“We’re putting in over $175,000 to help revamp the space so we have something truly unique in central Tucson,” said Travis. “We’re very motivated to keep expanding our footprint.”

The opening is expected to be in February 2018, alcohol license approval permitting.

Serial Grillers originally opened as a food truck in 2012, serving cheesesteaks and burgers named after serial killers. The following summer, they opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant followed by a second restaurant in 2017. They also recently announced an expansion of the second location to add 90 seats and 20 additional beer taps.

IOU Sushi III has closed. The all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant on North Oracle Road announced the news on Facebook after about 10 years in Tucson. “This is the hardest post I’ve had to write,” the owners said. The post continued, “we have met some great friends who have become family to us.” Tucson Foodie first visited the restaurant in 2017, when it operated as IOU Sushi IV.

Anne Rysdale built @sheltercocktaillounge in 1961 with concrete walls, lava rock, and Cold War nerves. Today, owners Pam Santangelo and Kevin Breutzmann keep the Tucson bar exactly as regulars remember it. Inside, martinis share space with JFK memorabilia, a vintage atomic chandelier, and a suit of armor named Charlie. “Tucson is changing so much, but this has stayed the same. It’s a time capsule,” Santangelo said.
