Tucson is fast becoming a street food hub of the southwest.
With Tucson’s Mexican food culinary roots, one might imagine it’s all Sonoran hot dogs, beans and rice. Yet, here in the Old Pueblo, one can choose between indigenous or international fare.
What’s on these mobile menus? Below is a quick look at two food trucks roaming the streets of Tucson. But read to the end for a quick roundup of … roundups.
Truck 54
The menu showcases fresh and familiar comfort food, like sandwiches. An order helps support its mission to provide employment for individuals in recovery.
Best Seller: One of Truck 54’s best sellers is the Chicken Gyro. Tender chicken is nestled in pita bread with creamy Tzatziki sauce, grilled red onions, cool cucumbers and ripe tomato slices.
Recommended: You must try the hearty Under The Sea sandwich. Dive into Albacore tuna, dried cranberries, celery, red onion and lettuce. Order your choice of white, wheat or sourdough bread.
Truck 54 has a packed schedule and is usually out and about Tuesdays through Thursdays. A regular gig is lunch at UA Banner Health, 2701 E. Elvira Rd each Thursday.

Just Churros
Nothing says Latin dessert like the sweet crunchiness of a fresh churro.
Churros – the ubiquitous extruded round log fried dough, dusted post-oil in cinnamon and sugar – are prepared much like a funnel cake at the state fair, but lighter and less calorie-laden.
Forget about those dried and chewy faux churro logs found at convenience stores or in the grocery store freezer section. Just Churros’ light and addictive goodies are a cherished, home-grown recipe. The multigenerational trailer is often found at large community events and regularly in the parking lot of El Guero Canelo on Grant and Oracle.
Best Seller: Just Churros’ best seller is, of course, the original churro. Grab a bag or two of these freshly-prepared delights.
Recommended: Branching out into new territory, Just Churros also offers the Ice Cream Sandwich. This item is a special request. On a hot Tucson day – aren’t they all? – you can order vanilla soft serve surrounded by two cookie-shaped churros.
