Visit Tucson and Pima County invites you to celebrate the amazing history, culture, and heritage of Tucson — the first U.S. city to become a UNESCO City of Gastronomy. ¡Viva Tucson!
For a second year, Hispanic Heritage Month from Friday, September 15 to Sunday, October 15, will be unveiling an array of cultural events each week. ¡Mi Casa es tu Casa! Every day, local community partners will host concerts, art exhibitions, and markets to pair with our internationally recognized food scene.
This month-long celebration pays homage to Tucson’s rich Hispanic heritage, showcasing the essence of this welcoming city and the people who make it an outstanding place to live, work, and play. Pima County will kick off the festivities with a proclamation and lighting of the Historic Courthouse Dome in red, green, and white for Hispanic Heritage Week.
Without a doubt, Tucson has been a leader in embracing its diversity.
“Even though Tucson has always been a welcoming and embracing community, we are excited to honor and celebrate the Hispanic heritage that is an important part of who we are,” said Felipe Garcia, Visit Tucson CEO. “These celebrations are not only for those of Hispanic heritage but for everyone that has the luck of calling Tucson home.”
Tucson has some of the country’s best Mexican food, and visitors and locals alike can indulge in the scents and tastes of Hispanic flavors at local restaurants.
Hispanic Heritage Month Events
Festivities begin with a Mexican Fiesta on Friday, September 15 at 5 p.m. at the Tucson Convention Center, followed by a free concert, hosted by the Consulate of Mexico in Tucson at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall at 7:30 p.m.
The concert will be conducted by Venezuelan Director Jose Luis Gamez, with music performed by the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and Mariachi Aztlán de Pueblo High School. This event is free and open to the public.
Additionally, there will be a cooking demo with local celebrity chef Maria Mazon at the Historic Pima County Courtyard on Friday, September 22 at 1 p.m.
