James Beard Foundation To Award Scholarships Up To $20,000 To Food-Focused Candidates

Apr 14, 20161 min read

For those interested in culinary arts or food science and studies, the James Beard Foundation is awarding more than $750,000 in financial aid.

Each accepted candidate is eligible for up to $20,000 in assistance. This includes, according to JBF, “food-focused candidates of exceptional talent who demonstrate leadership, community involvement, and academic excellence, and who aspire to leadership roles in the culinary arts, food studies, agriculture, hospitality management, and more.”

“We’re delighted to unveil the JBF National Scholars Program, which aims to provide significant, life-changing scholarships to students from across the country,” said JBF Vice President Kris Moon.

“As today’s students explore virtually every educational discipline as viewed through the lens of food, we look forward to identifying the best and brightest applicants.”

The application requires a current transcript and two letters of recommendation. Apply now until May 15.

The James Beard Foundation was established in 1991 to help culinary enthusiasts further their education. The organization has awarded over $6.5 million to more than 1,800 people.

@istanbultucson is expanding with a second location, @istanbulmediterraneanexpress, at 5660 W. Cortaro Farms Rd.

The fast-casual spot will feature about 75% of the original location’s menu, plus two exclusive dishes: build-your-own Turkish stuffed baked potatoes, known as Kumpir, and fresh-ground doner made in-house. The falafel plate and stuffed potatoes can also be made vegan.

“The first restaurant taught us what our customers love most, so at Cortaro we’re focusing the menu around our most popular dishes while making the experience a little more casual and convenient. Most importantly, we’ve learned that no matter how much we grow, the quality of our food has to stay high every single day.” — Kamran Esar
