Jewish deli-inspired “Cans” to replace “The Crackhouse” on 4th

Jewish deli-inspired “Cans” to replace “The Crackhouse” on 4th

Mar 20, 20181 min read

Fourth Avenue restaurant The Crackhouse is passing the torch to a new restaurant operated by partners Ben Schneider of TallBoys, Frank Bair, Parker Arriaga, Gabe Rozzell, and Simone Stopford.

Cans, a sister concept of TallBoys, is projected to open on May 1. The front of the 6,000-square-foot space will focus on being a deli, while the back will be a music-focused bar and dining area.

“It’s going to be a classic muted tropical vibe similar to TallBoys,” said Schneider, who will also serve as general manager of Cans. “Non-abrasive. We’re going to do an east coast Jewish deli with our own smoked sausages, kind of a smokehouse sort of vibe. We’re going to make our own pastrami, corned beef, smoke our own turkey. We’re working on vegan sausages.”

For a prime example of such a deli, think of the iconic Katz’s Delicatessen in New York.

“We’re going for east coast-style sandwiches without skimping on the meat,” Schneider said. “We plan on having many vegetarian options and a little Middle Eastern flair as well. The Jewish delis I went to in Cleveland had hummus and falafel as well.”

In the back, local and touring acts will perform regularly. Additionally, Cans plans to host movie nights and other goofy fun events.

“The goal is to have events nightly,” Schneider said.

Operating hours will be 11 a.m. – 2 a.m. daily.

Cans is located at at 340 N. 4th Ave. While they have no website at the moment, keep up with TallBoys on Facebook for updates.
