Pride Month: 5 Essential LGBT-friendly spots in Tucson

Jun 16, 20222 min read

It’s no news that June is Pride Month, and while Tucson’s LGBT scene might seem lowkey compared to some larger cities, it carries its weight. As a matter of fact, we are proud to announce that Tucson Foodie recently became a member of the local LGBT Chamber of Commerce.

Read on for an assortment of spots where Tucson’s community can go to get a cold drink, local bites, and have a knowing that they’ll be met with open arms and one heck of a good time.

Bumsted’s

If open mic comedy, drag king and queen shows, or karaoke night with your buds is your jam then Bumsted’s is the place to be. And with a solid reputation for their support of Tucson’s queer community, it’s a no-brainer to include them in this round-up.

Brodie’s Dark Horse Tavern
2449 N. Stone Ave.

Beat the heat during Happy Hour with their misters-lined patios, have dinner with your canine pal during karaoke, or bust a move for one of their dance nights. Whether you’re out with old friends or looking to meet new ones, Brodie’s Dark Horse Tavern makes the fun easy to have.

Cocktails, dancing, and drag shows, oh my. IBT’s, self-ranked as Tucson’s premier gay bar, serves the LGBT scene seven days a week with live DJs, karaoke, not one but two dance floors, and nights of special themes such as Therapy Thursdays and Absolutely Flawless Fridays.

Surly Wench Pub

424 N. Fourth Ave.

Great cocktails, pinball, and a solidly stacked jukebox make Surly Wench Pub a go-to for many here in Tucson. Throw in an LGBT scene-honoring calendar of events that includes happenings such as 80’s dance parties and First Friday Burlesque, and it becomes apparent the Pride they’ve woven into their stride.

@Talegacoffee at 177 N. Church Ave. transforms into @_Velvetcowboy after 4 pm, bringing cocktails, tapas, disco lights, and a lively bar atmosphere to the same space. The dual concept comes from the team behind Talega Coffee Co., with coffee and scratch-made breakfast and lunch served during the day, followed by happy hour and bar service at night.

Velvet Cowboy’s grand opening is Oct. 16, with upcoming events including drag brunches, DJs, and live music.🪩

“Opening this place feels a little surreal. To now have a space where we can bring together coffee, food, art, booze, and all the weird things we love feels like a reflection of how far we’ve come.” —Tyler Melo
