Shlomo & Vito’s New York Delicatessen & Pizza Kitchen, 2870 E. Skyline Dr. #120, has closed after nine years in business.
“[…] owner Dean Greenberg said it’s likely he will have to shut down the Catalina Foothills restaurant because of Prop. 206, although he noted the business was already struggling with debt,” the Arizona Daily Star reported in an article at the end of 2016.
Shlomo & Vito’s Facebook page posted the following details:
“Dear Tucson,
It is with a heavy heart that Shlomo & Vito announce their retirement. Today, we close our doors, but not our hearts. They remain full with incredible memories of the past 9 years. We are grateful for our family, employees, friends and guests who’ve become family over the years.
So many factors contribute to this difficult decision. The landscape is drastically changing. For small, locally owned businesses it is the rising cost of goods and labor that have most negatively impacted our ability to thrive. We are saddened deeply for our 43 employees, they’ve become part of our family and we will forever cherish the memories created here.
As we say goodbye, we ask this of you — support locally owned businesses. They are the heart of our community and they cannot do it alone. These families provide something chains and ‘big boxes never will — a glimpse in to our “collective soul”, our town. They are what make and keep us unique. They are the dreamers who take a risk to be a part of something bigger and in so doing, create opportunities for our town. It is these folks who we thank and will continue to support wholeheartedly.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the memories and for sharing in our dreams over the past 9 years. We will miss you. Always…”
