Oh, it’s that time of year again when local citrus is thriving in Tucson — putting on colorful displays on trees and making those branches extra droopy. However, what grows up high… must come down at some point.

Luckily, those with an abundant amount of oranges and lemons have support from the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. Beginning on Saturday, January 28, the Food Bank is hosting “Super Citrus Saturdays” and will collect your extra fruit on three separate occasions (some trees are late bloomers).
Sure, when life hands you lemons you can make a batch of lemonade, but if you’ve got way too many, along with oranges, grapefruits, or other types of citrus, you’re invited to drop them off during their monthly Saturday collections.

Collecting from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

- Fry’s Food Store at 7050 E. 22nd St.
Citrus donations can also be dropped off at several partner agencies of the Community Food Bank. For more information on where to find those, call (520) 622-0525.
The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona was named Food Bank Member of the Year in 2018 by Feeding America, a network of 200 food banks nationwide. Founded in 1976, the Food Bank provides food for people in need, advocacy, and nutrition education throughout southern Arizona including Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima, and Santa Cruz Counties.
