From the Lone Star State to the Grand Canyon State. A local chef is bringing his family’s traditions to the Old Pueblo, which is a combination of Mexican delights and Texas barbecue that’ll provide a pleasant giddyup to your taste buds.
Texas Burrito Company is hosting a grand opening celebration on Thursday, May 5 at 1570 E. Tucson Marketplace Blvd., Suite 100.

The restaurant opened in early March 2022 but is throwin’ an all-out party that’s meant to be its official launch into the local dining scene. Plus, it’s a perfect way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, which begins at noon, will get things rolling and will then be followed by Mariachi tunes throughout the afternoon.
Recipes dating back to 1836
Texas Burrito Company is a new concept by owner-operator barbecue pitmaster Jason Scott, who’s bringing nearly 10 years of experience to the kitchen. His main vision was to create and deliver “Texican” food to Tucson by throwing in his family recipes.
“I am beyond excited to celebrate the grand opening of Texas Burrito Company in my hometown of Tucson,” said Scott. “Like my mom, my sister and I were born here in Arizona and now I get to bring the Texican recipes from my dad’s side of the family to all my friends and neighbors. I really think they’re going to love it.”

What’s on the menu?
Their menu offers up breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes like burritos (of course), tacos, sandwiches, ribs, salads, baked potatoes loaded with meat, green chile mac and cheese, a plethora of salsas and sides, ice cream floats, fruit drinks, banana pudding, and pecan pie squares.
Oh, and if you’re looking to feed the whole dang family, check out their Ranch Hand Family Meals featuring whole chickens, beef brisket, or pulled pork. If you’re in a hurry, they’ve got the option to order online, too.
The restaurant is open daily from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
