TOMS Shoes-Inspired “Even Stevens Sandwiches” to Open in Tucson

TOMS Shoes-Inspired “Even Stevens Sandwiches” to Open in Tucson

Dec 20, 20162 min read

Salt Lake City-based sandwich shop Even Stevens Sandwiches might open its first Tucson location.

Phoenix Business Journal article from May earlier this year confirmed a location was slated to open in Tucson at 118 S. 5th Ave.

On December 15, Even Stevens Sandwiches applied for a liquor license 118 S. 5th Ave., Units 178 & 180.

In a business model comparable to TOMS Shoes, Even Stevens donates a sandwich to a local non-profit partner for each sandwich sold. To date, over 500,000 sandwiches have been donated.

While the charity model already differs from most sandwich shops, the menu is also eccentric. Standards sandwiches such as turkey and Reuben are available, but most of the items have a gourmet spin.

The Sloppy Joe ($6.95) features beef, chorizo, and pickled onion on a kaiser roll. The Jackfruit Torta ($7.95) features jackfruit carnitas, pepitas, guacamole, salsa morita, radish, cilantro, lettuce, and pickled onions on a sweet bun.

Salads also step up with their game with ingredients more interesting than prepackaged salad mixes. The Goat Hugger ($7.95) features roasted beets, spinach, arugula, candied pecans, goat cheese vin, and rye toast.

Sides also feature a foodie touch. The Brava Tots ($1.95) feature tots with brava aioli and smoky paprika.

The breakfast menu offers a variety of breakfast burritos, French toast, and a breakfast sandwich. The Brioche French Toast ($3.75) features brioche in a citrus-infused batter dusted with cinnamon sugar.

Local efforts reach beyond charity. Even Stevens menus feature local coffee and local craft beer. They also feature live local music on Thursday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

All locations open at 7 a.m. Monday through Saturday. Sunday Brunch, which features $3.75 unlimited French toast and $3 mimosas, starts Sundays at 9 a.m.

This will be Even Stevens’ third location in Arizona and tenth location overall.

Even Stevens officials could not be reached by deadline to comment.

Opened in 2023, @kabulcorner is Tucson’s only Afghan restaurant, created to provide jobs, community, and a taste of home for Afghan families who made Tucson their new home.

Today, Sediq Haidari and his family serve traditional Afghan dishes like bolani, mantou, Kabuli palaw, fresh tandoori naan, and house-made chaka, while preserving recipes and traditions rooted in Afghanistan’s rich history.

With its warm hospitality, authentic food, and strong sense of community, Kabul Corner has become a little piece of home in the Sonoran Desert. ❤️

“These dishes are famous not only in Afghanistan, but in neighboring countries like Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Iran, and even parts of China. It sits right between Indian and Arabic food.” Sediq Haidari
