#WeeklyDish (No. 9): Crispy Avocado Tacos from Seis Kitchen (VIDEO)

Sonoran cuisine has Tucson’s heart, but don’t forget about Mexico’s other regions.

Seis Kitchen and Catering at the Mercado San Agustin draws inspiration from six regions of Mexico, including Northern Mexico, Oaxaca, Mexico City, Baja, Yucatan, and Western Mexico.

Meat eaters will appreciate the Yucatan specialties Poc Chuc and Cochinita Pibil, which feature achiote-marinated chicken and pork respectfully.

Guacamole fiends will love the Baja-inspired Crispy Avocado ($10) taco platter. Avocados are dipped in Modelo Especial beer batter, fried crispy, and served with cabbage, cilantro, shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack, and Seis-style chipotle crema on house-made corn tortillas.

The warmth from the fry helps the rich avocados melt in your mouth, while the beer batter provides a light-yet-sturdy crunch. Cabbage provides another type of crunch and brightens up the dish with the help of cilantro. The cheeses add a touch of savory salt, while the chipotle crema rounds the dish with smoky mild heat.

Fried avocados might sound too simple to be so crave-worthy. However, Seis Kitchen’s dedication to preparing food from scratch with quality whole ingredients lets simple dishes shine.

For a drink, ditch the typical sodas in favor of one of the refreshing aguas frescas (16 oz. for $3, 24 oz. for $4.50).

Seis Kitchen and Catering is located at 130 S. Avenida del Convento #100 and can be reached at (520) 622-2002. For more information, visit seiskitchen.com.
