This week, the local wing joint, Wings Over Broadway, announced the official closure of its 8838 E. Broadway Blvd. location. Back in 2017, the restaurant expanded to this spot with the original location still intact at 5004 E. Broadway Blvd. However, that first spot has since been demolished, leaving the location near Camino Seco its sole restaurant.

The restaurant has gone through difficult obstacles over the last few years and it all eventually became too “much to overcome.” So, as of right now, the restaurant’s last day of business is Sunday, October 2.
“The only reason we have survived as long as we have is because of the truly great community,” Wings Over Broadway shared in a Facebook post. “We made a lot of great friendships and relationships over the years and we’ll never forget and will always appreciate all of you. So, this week, come in and say your goodbyes, eat all our food, and drink all our drinks.”

Additionally, with the end of every business, the employees can often be left empty-handed, but there’s an opportunity for the community to chip in.
“We will set up an employee donation box to help our great employees get by until their next opportunity. We will be cash-only this week to provide the most help to our employees. Thank you and I love and appreciate you all.”
So, again, lovers of local fried wings have the chance to stop by and order, donate, and share memories with the employees. Wings Over Broadway will be open until closing on Sunday, which is 7 p.m., but chances are they may close earlier than that — if they run out of food before then, that is.
“Over the years we have built the business, but most importantly we have built a community,” the wing joint shared in a separate Facebook post. “Those who know and come here as regulars know exactly what I’m talking about. We have customers who come to WOB not just for the food but also the interactions with our employees. We know customers by name and orders. So, please come in this week and get some great food while you can. Have a few drinks and share your memories with us.”
Speaking of memories, here’s a look back at that one time Jackie Tran attempted the “Afterburner Challenge” at Wings Over Broadway. Back then, the incredibly hot wings weren’t on the regular menu and you had to ask for them.
Wings Over Broadway is located at 8838 E. Broadway Blvd. For more information, call (520) 207-5883 or follow Wings Over Broadway on Facebook.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
