Pops Hot Chicken Truck is the Hottest Food Truck in Tucson (VIDEO)

The hottest food truck on the block, figuratively and literally, specializes in Nashville hot chicken sandwiches.

Peter Yucupicio opened Pops Hot Chicken Truck in December 2018.

“My two biggest passions in life have always been to cultivate great food and good music,” Yucupicio said. “Having already pursued my passion for music with my band Sur Block, I decided it was time to chase my other passion. After hosting dinner parties and catering small events for friends and family over the past several years, it finally felt like the perfect time to open Pops Hot Chicken.”

The truck, often parked north of the Hippie Gypsy at 351 N. Fourth Ave., features only four items on the menu: the Chicken Sandwich ($7.50), Fire Fries ($3.50), Fresh-Cut Fries ($2.50), and the Agua Fresca of the Day ($1.50).

“I want to keep it simple so that the sandwiches and fries are always the priority and heart of the menu,” Yucupicio said.

The Chicken Sandwich features a skin-on chicken thigh, “Slawvocado,” Yonce Sauce, and house-made pickles on a brioche bun.

“I personally prefer the thigh, and in my opinion, find it to have better taste,” Yucupicio said. “Also, leaving the skin on the thigh allows for a different dimension of crunch reminiscent of chicharron.”

With that in mind, the juicy, crispy sandwich is a mess — hold no restraint while taking on the beast. Make sure you have napkins.

Pops Hot Chicken Truck operates from Thursday – Sunday. To view their schedule and locations, keep up with Pops Hot Chicken Truck on Instagram.
