The plaza near Glenn and Campbell — Campbell Plaza — has a couple of newcomers moving in next year.
Fox Restaurant Concepts, which was founded by Tucson-bred Sam Fox, is planning to open two restaurants by late 2022: Flower Child and Doughbird. The restaurants will be opening at Campbell Plaza and both concepts will be taking over the former Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom.
“We’re always looking for great opportunities to grow in Tucson and finally found the perfect location for these two restaurants,” said Sam Fox. “It’s been a longtime goal of ours to bring Flower Child to Tucson, and we are excited to be able to do it alongside Doughbird, a concept that we are just beginning to grow.”
Growing is something Fox Restaurant Concepts continues to keep on movin’, too.
Back in 1998, Fox opened his first concept, Wildflower American Cuisine, and since then Tucsonans have been introduced to others including Zinburger, North Italia, Blanco Cocina + Cantina, and Culinary Dropout.
“During what’s been a challenging time for our industry,” said Fox, “we’re grateful for our loyal guests in Tucson and hope that they will enjoy these restaurants time and time again.”
What you can expect from Flower Child is a fast-casual atmosphere that’s been crafted to inspire and support healthier lifestyles. There are already a few locations in several states and the addition of the Tucson restaurant will make a total of six locations in Arizona.
The menu features made-from-scratch meals that dive into an assortment of dietary needs — bowls, wraps, salads, and a variety of mix-and-match veggies, grains, fruits, and healthy proteins. They’re calling it “clean eating with convenience.” Aside from the bites, the locations in Phoenix offer beer and sangria, so it’s likely the same will be available to sip on here in Tucson.

Fox Restaurant Concepts refers to Doughbird as its “offbeat new menu unlike any other.”
One of Sam Fox’s favorite styles of cuisine together happens to be pizza and chicken, so the menu is a combination of savory pizzas served alongside multiple takes on rotisserie and fried chicken. Oh, and there’s plenty of housemade sauces for you to dip your bites into as well. They’ll also be serving up Prime Rib, Roasted Salmon, and Lemon Meringue Pie.

Keep an eye out for more updates as they both near their targeted 2022 opening date.
