10 Fun Facts about The Coronet to Celebrate Their 5th Anniversary

Apr 9, 20192 min read

Old World restaurant The Coronet is celebrating its fifth anniversary on Saturday, April 13.

If you haven’t been, now is your chance. If you have, it’s time for another visit.

To help commemorate this lovely restaurant’s milestone, we’ve compiled a few fun facts for your enjoyment. Here goes:

1. The space, on the corner of East Ninth Street and Fourth Avenue, was built as a bakery called the Royal Bakery in the early part of the 1900s. The Coronado Hotel was built around it.

2. The bar, built in 1906, was found on Craigslist from a stage stop town north of Phoenix called New River. The painting on the wall is from artist Jerome Carlin.

3. Sally, one of The Coronet’s lovely owners, designed the encaustic Mission tiles, which were created in the Dominican Republic. She also designed the weave on the bistro chairs you all know and love.

4. Artist Gwyneth Scally did the drawings for the menus, which feature various animals. Love them!

5. It took them two years to include a burger on their menu after opening.

6. Sally’s family owned the Tack Room at Rancho Del Rio, which was awarded the southwest’s first Mobil 5-Star rating.
