What to Eat & Drink at the 2024 Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair

Dec 4, 20245 min read

The magic of the holiday season will shine bright when the Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair takes over multiple blocks from Friday, December 13 through Sunday, December 15.

Twice a year, the Fourth Avenue Merchants Association (FAMA) hosts the bi-annual tradition just in time for the holidays in December and then again during Tucson’s near-perfect weather in March. For 55 years, the family-friendly tradition has brought over 350,000 people to the Old Pueblo.

The three-day event is open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Oh, and admission is free!

“Families will love the festive fun, including appearances by Santa himself on Saturday and Sunday!”

The three-day event has been recognized as a “Top 100 Event in the World,” so shop, eat, drink, and embrace the local community.

Matt Sterner

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.

Between the pools, hot spring and cold plunge, water slide, yoga, live music, complimentary bike rentals, and their nostalgic “Summer Rewind” experience, there was always something to do. We never left the resort.

The highlight at their on-site restaurant, Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails, was the Pollo Con Rajas - perfectly cooked chicken over a rich creamed poblano, onion, and corn mestizaje. And if you’re at their Sundance Café for breakfast, get the pozole. It’s made from a family recipe that became such a guest favorite it earned a permanent spot on the menu.

Although El Conquistador licenses the Hilton brand, it’s owned and operated by a local company. The culinary team sources much of its meat and produce from Arizona.

Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or just looking for an incredible dinner with Catalina Mountain views, this spot is worth adding to your list. 🌵🌞
