Free Beer During Breckenridge Brewery’s “Breck Trek” Tour

Nov 6, 20182 min read

The nice folks at Breckenridge Brewery are embarking on their annual “Breck Trek” culture tour and will be in Tucson Tuesday, November 13 – Thursday, November 15.

It’s the Colorado brewery’s experimental way to meet new people, share their beer for free, and take over the city in a totally fun and entertaining way. In order to try Breckenridge’s beer, make sure to find the crew member at the participating locations.

To start things off on Tuesday, November 13 from 6 – 8 p.m., Breckenridge Brewery is setting up shop at Casa Film Bar to begin their “Breck Bar Crawl and Art Show.” After sitting back with the brew crew and watching a classic Colorado-themed movie, the crawl moves on to Mr. Heads for a live mural painting featuring local artist Fleks.

Another place to meet the crew and try some of their beer is at The Hut during an intimate concert with Matt Nathanson at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14. He’s taking a detour from his tour to play in a smaller venue and get to know the crowd — get there early as seats are on a first come, first served basis.

Possibly the brightest spot of the tour, and especially for anyone with an appetite, is the five-course beer-paired dinner at Union Public House at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 15.

This dinner is free, but you must enter to win a spot at the table.

Beer-paired Dinner at Union Public House

First Course
  • Avalanche Ale-Marinated Peaches – with camembert enc rout, candied mint, Amber Ale reduction, and arugula
  • Paired with the Avalanche Ale
Second Course
  • Cascabel and Mosaic Vinaigrette – with chili spiced smoked mangos, mizuna greens, toasted pepitas, and pickled cherries
  • Paired with the Mango Mosaic Pale Ale
Third Course
  • Oatmeal Stout-glazed Short Rib – rye berry risotto, pomegranate seeds, and braised ninja radishes
  • Paired with the Oatmeal Stout
Fourth Course
  • Pistachio-crusted Colorado Lamb Chop – Hop Peak mustard jus, potatoes a la hasselbacken, and grilled broccolini
  • Paired with the Hop Peak
Fifth Course
  • Eggnog Crème Brulee – with whiskey popcorn tuile and caramelized apples
  • Paired with the Christmas Ale

All events are free and open to the public, but just be sure to make enough time to arrive early, track down someone from the Breckenridge Brewery crew, and enter to win the five-course dinner.

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.

“Opening this place feels a little surreal. To now have a space where we can bring together coffee, food, art, booze, and all the weird things we love feels like a reflection of how far we’ve come.” —Tyler Melo
