For those fond of whiskey with a honey and oak finish, you’re in for a treat.
On Saturday, February 24, Whiskey Del Bac — the Tucson-based distillery known for its award-winning American single malts — will be selling its annual limited-release, Frontera.
“We take Whiskey Del Bac Classic American Single Malt Whiskey originally aged in new American White Oak, then finish it in Pedro Ximénez Sherry botas,” said Janna Hoffman of Whiskey Del Bac. “This American Single Malt is named after the medieval city, Jerez de la Frontera, which sits on what was once the edge of Spain and is known as the world capital of sherry wine.”
Each has an ABV of 48.5% and is 97 proof. One sip and it’ll have you saying “Have mercy” faster than Uncle Jesse can strike up the band in “Full House” — Jesse and the Rippers.

On the nose, you may find raisin, walnut, and crushed red grape skin. On the the palate, you may taste heavy vanilla, and stone fruits, followed by bright acidity, finishing with lingering honey, oak, and leather.
Important reminder: There are only 1,200 bottles nationwide.
Frontera was just bottled this past month so be sure to bookmark the online store so you can grab a bottle on Saturday, February 24. Oh, and if you’re a Whiskey Club Member you’ll have access to it earlier on Monday, February 19.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
