Are $2 fish tacos too good to be true? At Mestizos, no.
On Mondays, Mestizos offers glorious $4 fish tacos as a two-for-one special. As a believer in “you get what you pay for,” it’s difficult for me to fully appreciate this deal. I furl my eyebrows with each bite, trying to figure out what was sacrificed for the price.
Is it the size? No, these are fairly sized. Is it the quality? No, these nuggets of fish are crunchy and tender. The seasoning and salsa are great too.
As a result, you almost feel guilty. Are they even making money from this? I don’t know. Is this a good excuse for me to pile on my order with other food so that I’m not exploiting this lovely family-run business? Yes.
If you enjoy peanuts, make sure to order a cup of Agua de Mazapán. And order Flan for dessert while you’re at it; their version is one of the tastiest I’ve had.
