Tucson has been named one of the ten best affordable cities near wine country, according to a list compiled by Food & Wine Magazine and the residential real estate company Redfin.

The Old Pueblo was No. 8 on a roster that included Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (No. 10) Long Island, New York (No. 7) Leesburg, Virginia (No. 5) and Portland, Oregon (No. 2).

Sacramento, California came in at No. 1 for its proximity to the Lodi wine region. It was one of three California cities to make the roundup.

Destinations were chosen for their number of wineries, vineyards and tasting rooms, but also for the median sale price and price per square foot of their homes.

Tucson was lauded for its Sonoita and Willcox wine regions, with Callaghan Vineyards in Elgin receiving a special shout-out for being ā€œone of the state’s leading producers,ā€ specializing in ā€œsouthern French varietals like MourvĆØdre and Petite Sirah.ā€

The Grill at Hacienda del Sol, located at the Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch Resort, 5501 N. Hacienda del Sol Road, was named the place to drink in Tucson proper, with its ā€œbreathtaking mountain views and exceptional and extensive wine list.ā€

According to the affordable cities list, the median sale price for a Tucson home is $138,000, the lowest on the list, with the median price per square foot at $93.
