Monday Munchies: Ramen at Maru Plus Japanese Restaurant

Nov 24, 20251 min read

Monday Munchies is supported by Botanica.

When your cravings hit and you need something bold and satisfying, dive into the Spicy Scallop Shrimp Miso Ramen at Maru Plus Japanese Restaurant. The dish brings heat, richness and submarine-level seafood umami in a single bowl.

What You’ll Taste

The broth arrives steaming and slightly spicy, layered with miso’s savory depth and a clear chili kick. A handful of plump scallops and shrimp rest on top, their natural sweetness cut by the heat and tempered by jammy egg yolk.

The noodles are chewy, springy, and prime for slurping. Cooling bok choy rounds out the bowl.

Plus, the in-house topping bar gives you DIY-power. Want extra jalapeños? Go. Want seaweed? Done. It becomes your bowl, your flavor, your munchies fix.

The Setting, The Vibe

The price is reasonable for such a loaded dish. And the service is speedy when it’s not peak. One tip: order at the counter and slide into a table while the bowl is being made.

IOU Sushi III has closed. The all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant on North Oracle Road announced the news on Facebook after about 10 years in Tucson. “This is the hardest post I’ve had to write,” the owners said. The post continued, “we have met some great friends who have become family to us.” Tucson Foodie first visited the restaurant in 2017, when it operated as IOU Sushi IV.

Anne Rysdale built @sheltercocktaillounge in 1961 with concrete walls, lava rock, and Cold War nerves. Today, owners Pam Santangelo and Kevin Breutzmann keep the Tucson bar exactly as regulars remember it. Inside, martinis share space with JFK memorabilia, a vintage atomic chandelier, and a suit of armor named Charlie. “Tucson is changing so much, but this has stayed the same. It’s a time capsule,” Santangelo said.
