Chances are you’ve eaten or at least caught a glimpse of Tannas Botannas‘ spicy candy or rim dips at multiple shops and businesses around Tucson — the Spicy Gusherz are my personal favorite.
Well, now Tannas has gone nationwide! Tannas Botannas has teamed up with the national candy store IT’SUGAR, which is one of the largest specialty sweets shops in the U.S.
Therefore, Tanna Cole’s treats can be found in more than 100 stores including Minnesota’s Mall of America, Hollywood’s Universal Studios, and the Navy Pier in Chicago. For Cole, it “really has been a dream come true.”
“Three years ago when we started Tannas Botannas, a small local business based out of Tucson, we would dream of taking our Puro Fuego candy Nationwide,” she said. “We started making our candy on our kitchen counter — now we have the opportunity to provide jobs for the community in our factory and to sell our products in the entire country.”
Tanna Botannas has two physical locations in Tucson at 4426 S. Sixth Ave. and 954 W. Prince Rd. Plus, you can order any of their sweet treats online. Also, stop by Puro Ice at 314 E. Sixth St. — Tanna Botannas’ ice cream concept and “ultimate munchie spot.” The shop opened its doors in late 2022, bringing the sweets to the Fourth Avenue area.

“We are extremely thankful for everyone who has been a customer/supporter for helping us reach goals and making the Tannas Botannas dream possible,” Cole added. “!Si se puede!”

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
