Fukushu Restaurant Concepts is planning to open its second OBON Sushi Bar Ramen location in north Scottsdale in early spring 2017.
OBON’s new location will be in the former TK’s Urban Tavern at 15059 N. Scottsdale Rd., Ste J1-195, in the open-air shopping center Scottsdale Quarter. The lease was finalized November 7.
“We want to grow this brand,” said Brandon Katz, partner at OBON. “We see people in Phoenix expanding down here, so we feel it’s time for a quality operator to expand up there. We think Tucson has something to offer them.”
Due to differences between the Phoenix and Tucson market, OBON’s food and cocktail menus will be adapted accordingly, said Katz.
“We will hire an executive chef over there, Paulo (Executive Chef Paulo Im) will oversee them, and they will be able to add their touch to the menu as well,” Katz said. “We’re in touch with some of the better mixologists to join our team and adapt to the area.”
Partner André Joffroy will design the interior for the new location as well, working with the existing plumbing but maintaining OBON’s visual identity with natural woods and blue steel.

However, the original OBON location will remain as the flagship location with “more chef-iness,” Katz said.
“We want this original location to be different,” Katz said.
