The University of Arizona and Pueblo Vida Brewing are pumped to debut the Wildcat Cerveza on Thursday, October 19. The brewery will be hosting the exclusive first taste in their taproom from 3 – 9 p.m., and the first 50 people will receive a stein-pour for 50% off.
We first announced the partnership in August and this Sonoran-style amber lager is their first collaboration. Wildcat is brewed in a traditional Mexican amber style which is more flavorful with a touch of sweetness balanced with a dry finish. It is smooth, crisp, and refreshing and if you really want to bear down, it pairs perfectly with a lime.

Linette Antillon and Kyle Jefferson, the owners/founders of Pueblo Vida Brewing, share a deep love and connection to Tucson and have made it their home since graduating from the University of Arizona in 2009
“Because this beer will reach so many people throughout southern Arizona we wanted to brew a style of craft beer that was traditional for our region,” said Linette. “Amber lagers are refreshing and crisp while also having a slightly sweet caramel taste before a dry finish. They are amazing with a squeeze of lime and are a perfect pair with the food we cook for backyard cookouts, celebrations, and tailgates. This beer pairs perfectly with tacos, elote, tamales, and super tortas.”
Ryan Trayte of Saywells Design created the artwork for the can which features hand lettering inspired by Southwest-style signage.
“The design of Wildcat Cerveza blends all the things we love about the University of Arizona with the handcrafted, cross-border culture of Tucson and Southern Arizona,” said Trayte. “Handmade lettering, the hand-drawn wildcat, and references to Southwestern U.S. and Mexico handmade signage are all featured to celebrate the Wildcat community, as well as the U of A institution.”

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
