As the second annual Tucson Jazz Festival kicks off, our thoughts turn to all things jazz. And food, of course.

The line up for this year’s festival is hot, and nearby restaurants are ready to welcome jazz fans with even warmer drinks and delicious eats.

Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour performs on Sunday, January 17, with Raul Midon, Nicholas Payton, Ravi Coltrane, Gerald Clayton, Joe Sanders and Justin Brown.

Kicking off the festival on January 14 is Jimmy Heath & The Tucson Jazz Institute Ellington Band, with the Kenny Werner Trio.

Enjoy Poncho Sanchez, one of the most influential conga players in Afro-Cuban jazz, with La Voz de Tres opening on Thursday, January 21.

On Friday, The Rad Trads and Arthur Migliazza perform.

MLK Day Downtown Jazz Fiesta

This free event on Monday, January 18, features Jazz on two stages, local Latin jazz bands and smaller jazz ensembles. Don’t forget to bring canned goods for the Community Food Bank donation tent. Food trucks, beer, and wine will be available.

Then, on Sunday, Kermit Ruffins, trumpeter, and guitarist and singer King Solomon Hicks perform.

José Contreras, chef and owner of @Ameliastucson, is headed to New York City to cook alongside chef Alam Méndez of Washington, D.C.‘s Apapacho Taqueria for a collaborative dinner at the James Beard Foundation’s Platform at Pier 57.

The Aug. 11 dinner will celebrate the culinary traditions of Sonora and Oaxaca through a multi course menu centered on heirloom corn, traditional masa, and coastal flavors. Guests will also enjoy a cocktail reception, Mijenta Tequila pairings, and a Q&A with both chefs. The event begins at 6:30 pm at @Pier57.nyc. Tickets are $210 for dining table seats and $250 for the chef’s counter, and are available now at Jamesbeard.org.

Although El Conquistador licenses the Hilton brand, it’s owned and operated by a local company. The culinary team sources much of its meat and produce from Arizona. 

Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or just looking for an incredible dinner with Catalina Mountain views, this spot is worth adding to your list. 🌵🌞
