Each week, we want to highlight one of our favorite restaurants in Tucson!
Vero Amore, which means “true love” in Italian, lives up to its name with two locations in Tucson: 12130 N. Dove Mountain Blvd. #104 in Marana and 2920 N. Swan Rd. in midtown.

The restaurant is owned by the local group, JAM Culinary Concepts, founded by Tucson brothers Aric and Joshua Mussman and their mom, Suzanne Kaiser. After getting a taste of certified Neapolitan pizza in Seattle back in 2006, the two brothers came up with the idea to create a Neapolitan pizzeria here in Tucson.
Fast forward to today and the family-owned and operated restaurant is also certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN) as an authentic Neapolitan pizzeria. In other words, Vero Amore’s pizza meets a highly regulated code of authenticity.
Last year, Vero Amore won a “Taste of Marana Standout Restaurant Award” for its Dove Mountain location — they were honored for their “extraordinary food, and customer and community services.”

“We are very grateful to receive this honor and especially because it came from our guests’ recommendation,” said Suzanne Kaiser. “We have enjoyed being part of this wonderful community for 15 years and look forward to serving it for many more.”
Over the years, Vero Amore’s Dove Mountain location has donated to a wide range of charities and non-profit organizations including the Ronald McDonald House and the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
In addition to Vero Amore, the group owns and operates Noble Hops, Tucson Wings, and The Still — the hidden speakeasy inside Vero Amore’s Swan Road location.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
