Arizona Beer Week is brewing strong in its latest season and a lot is happening right now until Sunday, February 25.
For one, there’s the Tucson Craft Beer Crawl and secondly, there are new beer releases to catch throughout the week. One of those beer releases will be exclusively on tap at Tucson Hop Shop, located at 3230 N. Dodge Blvd., Unit H., beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 23.
This winter, David Zugerman, co-owner of Tucson Hop Shop, headed over to New Mexico, braved the colder weather, and brewed a beer with the team at La Cumbre Brewing. That is where the brand-new West Coast IPA was born!
“It was an amazing experience, and the folks at La Cumbre Brewing were so nice and hospitable,” said Zugerman. “The beer is going to be called Sonoran Soul IPA and it will be a nicely dry-hopped West Coast IPA. I am very excited about how this beer will turn out we will be having a release event during Arizona Beer Week.”
Neat & Nerdy Beer Specifications
The Sonoran Soul IPA comes in at a tasty 7% ABV, which is made with Strata, Talus, Ekuanot, Citra, and Simcoe.
La Cumbre brews out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and has been providing beer since 2010. You’ve likely seen their Elevated IPA on tap at many restaurants and bars here in Tucson, and as mentioned earlier, the brand-new Sonoran Soul IPA collaboration will be exclusively on tap at Tucson Hop Shop until the kegs run dry.
Stop by, give ’em a cheers for this limited-time beer, and relax at one of the best taprooms and patios in Tucson.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
