February 2020 Food Events: Workshops, Wine Festivals & Beer Celebrations

Jan 31, 20206 min read

It’s a new month and there’s love in the air.

Whether you’re falling in love with someone or falling head over heels with a new restaurant, February has plenty of fun events to attend. You’ve got choices that include food workshops for couples, pop-up beer dinners, all-you-can-eat tacos, a beer crawl, and wine festivals.

Saturday, February 1

The dinner and tastings are part of a weekend extravaganza happening at Tanque Verde Ranch.

If you’re interested in the one-day pass it’s $55 a person, and are only valid for events happening on Saturday. Each ticket includes beer tastings, live music, and the dinner buffet. …read more.

The celebration is often considered one of the most important holidays on the Chinese calendar, and each Asian-inspired dish will be prepared by chef Janos Wilder and chef Devon Sanner.

Tickets are $87.50 and include a five-course dinner and a half bottle of wine per person. …read more.

Wednesday, February 5

Jeronimo “Mo” Madril recently competed on Guy’s Grocery Games and now the public gets to see the outcome. Also, chef Mo will be parked right outside of Che’s Lounge — where he’s often found — and is going to recreate the dish he made on the show.

The show starts 8 p.m., but get there early to order your food. …read more.

Saturday, February 8

The event is being run by local chef Jose Zavala, who’s also known as Che West, and much like the previous events, he’s creating three types of tacos for everyone to enjoy. In addition to the tacos, they’ll be serving up a Michelada Special.

Tickets are $20 per person and the price will increase as we approach the day of the event. …read more.

SAVOR showcases the diversity of food and ingredients by bringing more than 60 of the region’s best chefs, wineries, breweries, and local restaurants together.

Tickets are $79 per person and that includes samples from all wineries, breweries, distilleries, restaurants, and food purveyors. …read more.

All you’ve got to do is follow your nose to the midtown brewery, and you’ll be greeted and tastefully overtaken by the smell of Cajun seasonings.

In addition to the steaming cuisine, Sentinel Peak’s craft beer will be available as well as cocktails at their full bar. …read more.

You can learn from the best during this class.

Green Mountain Grills Competition Pitmaster, Sterling Smith, will teach you his competition secrets for the backyard cook. Tickets are $99 per person.

Tuesday, February 11

The food and beer menu has yet to be released, but you can grab your tickets now. Seats are $40 per person and includes four beers and four courses.

Wednesday, February 12

1912 Brewing‘s co-owner and head brewer is celebrating his 43rd birthday with an awesome meal from The Parish’s chef Travis Peters.

The four courses have yet to be released, but you can take a look at the regular dinner menu to get an idea of what’s normally dished out. Tickets are limited and are $40 per person. …read more.

Thursday, February 13

Black Market BBQ is pulling up to Casa Film Bar for a night of barbecue and the frightening sci-fi film “Alien.”

The food truck serves food in the style of North Carolina cuisine, so stop on by for some great food and a classic movie.

Saturday, February 15

This isn’t going to be your typical dining experience, ladies and gents.

Rather than waiting to be served, you’ll be serving yourself and learning new culinary techniques for that “special someone” in your life. It’s also a great way to surprise your partner with an unforgettable dinner — that is, if you don’t bring them along for the class.

It’s $55 to attend the class, and you’ll want to register soon before it fills up. …read more.

The Steam Pump Ranch and its iconic 1800’s ranch house is quite the backdrop for more than 25 vineyards and wineries, local fare from a variety of AZ food trucks, live jazz music performed by the Pete Swan Trio and local artisans.

Tickets are $25 per person and it’s free admission for designated drivers and kids. …read more.

The adventure allows you to explore new areas of downtown, new beer, and perhaps favorite beer you’ve already tried in locations you’ve already seen. Either way, it’s a fun experience getting out there and seeing what Tucson has to offer.

12 venues and nearly 30 participating breweries are confirmed so far, but more may to join the party as we creep closer to the event. …read more.

Throughout the class you’ll learn about the different types of grapes, and how to identify the different characteristics of wine — body, texture, and terroir. On top of that, you’ll walk away with an idea of food pairings and glassware.

Most importantly, you’re going to be tasting a variety of wines and the dishes that tastefully pair with them.

Tickets are $65 per person. …read more.

Sunday, February 16

Throughout the event you’ll get to hang out with hunky firefighters and law enforcement members, all while drinking wine and eating chocolate. Aside from the sweets, the event is meant to support the new calendar they’re putting together.

Tickets are $20 per person and include a souvenir glass, six tasting tickets, and chocolate. …read more.

Tuesday, February 18

With each year’s passing, the monthly event continues to change, get tastier, and grow into a much bigger culinary experience with its vast group of collaborators. This year, PY Steakhouse and executive chef Ryan Clark are inviting local farmers from Southern Arizona into the kitchen to craft multi-course dinners with paired beverages.

Next up is Anne Loftfield of High Energy Agriculture and will involve using hand-picked, mindfully-sourced, Arizona-grown ingredients. The menu has yet to be released, but will be added shortly. …read more.

Thursday, February 20

The moment you walk into the steakhouse you’ll feel like you’ve been transplanted back into the Roaring ’20s, and on hand will be several bountiful bites and speakeasy-style cocktails.

Tickets are $65 per person and space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot ahead of time. …read more.

Friday, February 21

Matt Sterner

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
